Q. Swine Flu vaccination has been made compulsory for all those going for Hajj and Umrah. I have read that the Swine Flu vaccine contains pig substances. Will it be permissible to be vaccinated with a pig-vaccine for the purpose of Hajj or Umrah?

It’s 1886 and the players have become more and more convinced of the importance of a player’s union. Thus the birth of the Brotherhood of Professional Base Ball Players. The first chapter was led by Giant pitcher John Montgomery Ward and Philadelphia sportsman Bill Voltz. Lack of health insurance and the rumors of a possible $2,000 ceiling on player’s salaries were springboards that saw the Brotherhood grow to over 200 members by the end of the 1886 season.
On the field the NL raised the # of balls needed for a walk to 7, while the AA reduced the # to 6. Both leagues made the stolen base an official stat.
In the National League Dick Young would replace Abraham Mills as league President. Our old friends the Providence Grays would disband, as would the Buffalo Bisons. Joining the league would be the Washington Nationals, and the Kansas City Cowboys.
In the American Association, Denny McKnight was removed as league president and replaced by Wheeler Wyckoff. All 8 teams from the 1885 season would return.
The White Stockings would repeat as champs, but were battled by the Detroit Wolverines for the entire season, before edging them out by 2.5 games. Cap Anson drove in 147 runs while hitting .371, and Mike Kelly would lead the league with a .388 average. John Clarkson and Jim McCormick would both win over 30 games.
In the American Association the St Louis Browns would easily outdistance the 2nd place Pittsburgh Alleghenys by 12 games for their 2nd straight AA championship. Tip O’Niell lead the league with 107 rbis, and Arlie Latham led the league with 152 runs scored. No mean feat in only 134 games played for Latham. On the mound Dave Foutz tied for the league lead in wins with 41, while #2 starter Bob Caruthers would win 30.
Some noteworthy feats: Guy Hecker of the Louisville Colonels(AA) would win 26 games and lead the league in hitting with a .341 average. The only pitcher to ever win a batting title. He would pitch in 52 games and spend time at both 1st base and the outfield, appearing in 39 more games. In one game he would toss a 4 hitter, collect 6 hits, 3 of them inside-the-park HRs(a record) and would also score 7 runs.
A day later pitcher Bob Caruthers would smack 4 extra base hits. A double, triple and 2 HRs would tire him out however as he gave up 10 runs in the 8th inning to lose 11-9.
Rookie pitcher Jocko Flynn would win 23 games for the White Stockings, but develop severe arm problems at the end of the season. He would never pitch again, retiring after one season with a 23-6 record, and a 2.42 ERA.
Matt Kilroy of the AA Baltimore Orioles would toss a no hitter and using a still allowed running start, would strike out an all-time record 513 batters.

Yesterday we decorated the office for the little ones who would be trick or treating through the office later in the afternoon. Let me give you the back story. My office, the Halloween after Hurricane Wilma, opened the office (three floors) to the little ones as many did not have electricity yet and wanted to offer a safe place for the little ones to trick or treat. This became an annual even where departments decorate for this and it’s a fun time had by all.
Then Shy and I went to Nanny’s and carved a pumpkin. That was a time intensive labor of love, but it was definitely worth it to see my baby girl’s smile.
This morning I made a great breakfast basically cleaning out my fridge. Lots of coffee of course
this was 1/2 an onion and two strips of turkey bacon
then I added in some quinoa pilaf from the other night
add some chopped broccoli and 1 cup of blackbeans
some red pepper flake for a kick
then I added in some eggbeaters to finish if off
then I served it up over a toasted onion western alternative bagel. These are made for me. Yum! 
Today I have lots of chores this morning on tap and then a trip to the library after lunch and then later, Trick or Treating!!!! Yep, it’s Halloween, I think I mentioned that.
Of course, I’m not trick or treating, but I’m taking the beautiful Shy. She’ll be Snow White, as you saw earlier. I wonder if we will make it all the way around the block this year.
As you now, I switched over to WordPress to see if I like it any better. As of right now, not so much. But I think that has more to do with the fact that I don’t know how to use all of the features. I think, as time goes by, I will find that I do like the functionality that it seems to have better than blogger. We’ll see.
I’m off to do chores! No pictures of that. Well, then again, maybe I will.
This week has been a bit of a schedule mess, with a combo of rainy days and meetings messing up my usual commute method. Biking is great beacuse I can come and go on my own schedule, at my own pace and it’s super fast to get from work to my house and the route from house to apartment (altho 20 min or so) has become a piece of cake. This bikelessness has led to taking the 12 bus late at night after working on the house, sometimes with Rob sometimes alone. It is awesome because it’s on time, fast, empty and I can get home almost as fast as biking, half the time on the bus and half the time walking. Hopefully Septa doesn’t strike this weekend!
